Lincoln Elementary PTA is a Readers Are Leaders® Award winner, receiving $1,000 for its school library.

Lincoln Elementary PTA is one of 20 Arizona PTAs receiving $1,000 grants for its literacy activities from McDonald's Readers Are Leaders® Award program. The grant program provides funding for books and reading materials for school libraries to enhance book collections.

Applications were judged on creativity, ability to make good use of books, and solid strategy for long-term reading promotion activities. Lincoln Elementary School implemented a program called "Read to Feed." The students were challenged to read 72,000 minutes and raise funds for Heifer International, a program to alleviate hunger and poverty. Students exceeded their goal and raised $3,730 to send to Heifer International.

Grant money will be used to purchase books for the shool library to keep students enthusiastic about reading.
